RYO Member Directory

The Plugin Administrator Manual

What a great way to build and support your web community!

Welcome to the RYO Membership Directory Plugin. You'll find that most aspects of this addition to WordPress are easy to manage and control.

We've designed this helpsite to give you the information you need to setup and configure your member directory. It's divided into several sections:

  1. START HERE: What Do You Want to Do to Help Your Online Community? Start here to get a feeling for how the directory system works and how to maximize its value to your website and your website's members and guests. Then move on to the Quick Start Guide.

  2. Quick Start Guide: This "Quick Start" will have you up and running in no time. Then you can fine-tune and modify your directory system using the information in this Administrator Manual.

  3. Settings: This is where you set up the main directory options for your directory, including the prompts that your members will see when editing their information.

  4. Member Directory Page: This is how you set up a Page to display a list of your members.

  5. Yearbook-style Directory Page: This is how you set up a Page to display a list of your members using a "yearbook" style display with individual photos.

  6. Category Search Pages: This is how you set up a Page to search for a member by keywords or by clicking on a Category, Interests, or Activities link.

  7. Classified Directory Page: Create a "Yellow Pages" style business directory or your own classified listing! Use a classification list different than the categories in the Category Search Page. Often used for business listings, it can be used for any purpose. Searching is by keywords or by clicking on a Classification.

  8. Member Offers Page: Create a special page where vendor members can go make special advertising offers to your members or website visitors. They add their advertisement and it's instantly available to everyone.

  9. Personal Webpage: One of the features you can offer your members is a Personal Webpage that lists member information or promotes their business. It's instantly available to everyone as soon as you create a directory.

  10. Featured Member: Add a "Featured Member" section to your front page, featuring a different member every day. It's great for creating excitement among the membership. This looks like a lot of work, but the computer does the work for you!

  11. Board of Directors/Special Group Page: This page can be used to highlight any special group of members you need to list. Typically, it's used for a governing board, but it could be something else. Think about it!

  12. Sample Help Page: It's important to add a help page to your website to assist your members in editing. Here's a sample help page; feel free to cut and paste, then edit to suit.

  13. Standard Templates: If you want to change how a directory looks, the fastest way is to specify a different template. Look here to see how the various templates look.

  14. Template Layout Codes: These codes are used in Member Directory setup codes and in the templates in Directory Setup for Search Results, Profile Listings, and the Board/Directors Page.

  15. Banner Ad Rotator: We have provided a method for you to display banner ads on your WordPress pages.

  16. Frequently Asked Questions: Your questions that weren't answered above.
